The Assembly Activity Center Construction Update
Tuesday, January 16, 2024
Dear Church Members and Summit Family,
It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of an unexpected incident that occurred at our new Activity Center. On the evening of January 14, an issue with our fire suppression system caused severe flooding within the facility, particularly affecting the lobby area and our much-anticipated gymnasium. The cause of the issue is currently under investigation.
Tragically, a significant amount of water seeped under the newly installed wood court, causing considerable damage. The construction company acted swiftly, bringing in professionals to address and remediate the situation. From our preliminary evaluations, however, it is clear that our plans to open the Activity Center this month will be regrettably delayed.
This setback deeply saddens us, especially considering the immense effort and dedication that has gone into preparing this facility for our community. We recognize the disappointment this news brings, particularly to our students and our senior athletes, who were eagerly anticipating being the first to play in the new gym. Please know that our staff is fully committed to exploring every possible avenue to make the remainder of the season memorable and special for our students.
In light of these developments, the Grand Opening ceremonies planned for this weekend at The Assembly and the opening night festivities scheduled for January 26 are on hold. Our leadership team will take time to regroup and reassess our plans. We will communicate new dates and times for these events as soon as they are established.
We ask for your continued support and prayers during this challenging time. Your understanding and patience as we navigate these unforeseen circumstances are immensely appreciated. We are committed to overcoming this setback and look forward to welcoming you to our Activity Center as soon as it is safe and feasible to do so.
Thank you for being a part of our church and school family. Your unwavering support in times like these is what strengthens our community.
We are very much looking forward to our special services beginning tomorrow night — Wednesday, January 17 — at our South Campus with Pastor Jabin Chavez at 7 pm and, in all three services this coming weekend, with Pastor and Coach Denny Duron. Bring your family and invite your friends—it will be powerful!
Sincerely,
Pastor Ron Woods
